Salina airport displays capabilities during Hawgsmoke

Salina airport and community competencies were in full display recently for a major event that attracted America's war fighters and garnered international attention.

Fourteen A-10 squadrons from around the globe competed for the title "Best of the Best" during Hawgsmoke 2008 at Salina Municipal Airport and Smoky Hill Weapons Range from October 15-17, 2008.

The Salina location performed much like a Forward Operating Location, or FOL, for the military deployment and demonstrated the Salina Airport's unique ability to "spool up" for a major aviation event, much like the community did for the GlobalFlyer record flight a few years ago.

"The Salina Airport was the perfect location to host Hawgsmoke 2008," said Col. Mark Clemons, 442nd Fighter Wing commander.
