Business, Aviation, Education and Military drive economic growth at Salina Airport and Airport Industrial Center           
 

Salina, Kan. December 17, 2008 Employers at the Salina Airport and Airport Industrial Center generate more than $153 million in direct annual payroll and employ more than 4,200 workers, according to a study from Wichita State University's Center for Economic Development and Business Research.
 
"The Salina Airport Authority commissions this report to give it a data-rich snapshot of the results of the community's economic development strategy and policies," said Tim Rogers, A.A.E, the airport's executive director.
 
Rogers added, "The data in this study provides a statistical view of how manufacturing, aviation, education, government and military contribute to the economic health of Salina and Saline County.  "Our many manufactures and other business employers at the Airport and Airport Industrial Center, pay more than $153 million in annual payroll that funds the local economy."
 
"This study shows the leading role that the Salina Airport and Airport Industrial Center have in the economic health of our community, accounting for 14 percent of all jobs in Saline County. The Salina Airport Authority is an absolutely critical partner in our area's long-term economic development strategy," said Dennis Lauver, president/ CEO of the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce.

The WSU report found that the Airport and Airport Industrial Center businesses invested almost $23 million in capital expenditures and purchased local goods and services amounting to more than $100 million in 2007. Businesses and organizations directly employ more than 4,200 workers for a total employment of over 8,900. Total annual payroll exceeds $281 million.
