Airport construction update
 
Salina, Kan., (July 30, 2009) - It's been a busy week for construction crews working on the flight line at the Salina Airport Authority. 
                                                         

Construction on the north ramp area is funded by a grant
from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, more commonly referred to as "Stimulus Money."  While other construction projects are funded in part by Airport Improvement Program grants from the Federal Aviation Administration.  The Airport Improvement Program provides grants to public agencies for the planning and development of public use airports included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems.     


Construction began earlier this month and will continue through mid November.  The main runway is currently shut down and is slated to be open by August 19.
 
Workers finished milling the north 4,800 feet of runway 17-35.  Crews completed demolition and placed base rock on the north ramp connector and safety area of taxiway Charlie.  Edge drains were installed on the north ramp connector. 
 
Crews began installation of edge drains.  PVC duct is being placed to pull electrical wire for LED taxiway lights, on taxiway Charlie. 
 
Personnel will begin placing asphalt on runway 17-35, Wednesday.
