SAA board approves
grants
Salina, Kan., (July
28, 2010) - The Salina Airport
Authority board of directors met in a short special board meeting to
discuss two grants for airport and taxiway improvements, July 28.
The board accepted a $475,000 grant from the Kansas
Department of Transportation to fund the partial rehabilitation of the
north 4,800 feet of Taxiways Alpha, Foxtrot and Hotel. The grant will fund half of the
$950,000 project and the Authority's portion will come from a 2010 bond
issue.
The sole bidder for
this project, APAC- Kansas Shears Division, submitted a bid of $738,775
allowing Manager of Facilities Kenny Bieker to expand the project by
including much needed taxiway shoulder stabilization, said Executive
Director Tim Rogers, A.A.E.
The work is expected
to be completed by mid-September.
The board also
accepted a $226,890 Federal Aviation Administration Airport Improvement
Grant to pay for 65 percent of the cost to design a new aircraft rescue
and firefighting station.
The Authority will
pay the remaining 35 percent, $122,172, of the contract with BWR
Corporation from a 2010 bond issue.
