Airport
improvement construction update
Salina, Kan., (July 21, 2009) - The Salina Airport Authority's
main runway was shut down Monday for airport improvement construction and
is slated to be re-open by August 19.
The runway work is funded in part by an Airport Improvement Program
grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation.

"We're rehabilitating the surface on the runway and
taxiways because their lifecycle is nearly over," said Kenny Bieker,
manager of facilities and construction. "We're catching it at a
time before it starts to create a FOD (foreign object debris)
problem."
Work has begun on taxiways Charlie and Delta within the runway 17-35 safety
area along with the milling of the north 4,800 feet of runway 17-35.
During the closure the north portion of runway 17-35 will be resurfaced and
taxiways Alpha, Charlie, Delta and Echo will be improved. Runway
04-22 is expected to remain open during this time.
