Historic Stiefel
Theatre to offer special showing of 'Battleground'
Salina, Kan., (July 12, 2010) - If circa
WWII airplanes don't take you back to the 1940's, perhaps a film from
the same era will put you there.
The historic Stiefel Theatre, which
first opened in 1931, will host a special showing of the 1949 flick
"Battleground," July 13 at 7 p.m. in honor of the WWII
veterans and their loved ones visiting the Wings of Freedom Tour at the
Salina Municipal Airport.
During "Copper Collection Day"
at the Fox-Watson Theater the soldiers of Smoky Hill Army Airfield
could see the latest films of the day for four ounces of copper. Re-named and fully restored, the
Stiefel Theatre is offering today's residents a similar experience.
Although it is a far cry from mere
pennies, admission is only $5 with popcorn and drinks for $1. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the movie
will start at 7 p.m. Don't miss
the Wings of Freedom to find out what movie will be presented and get a
taste of 1940's life in Salina.
