Salina, Kan., (June 19, 2009) - The skies over the
Salina area will be a bit noisier than usual in the upcoming weeks as
Canada's Air Force 425 Tactical Fighter Squadron out of Bagotville, Quebec
trains over the Smoky Hill Air National Guard Bombing Range.
Close to 100 Canadian troops, including 12 CF-18 Hornet pilots, will
be working with their Army forward air controllers dropping training
ordinance on the range.
"They need experience working with fighter aircraft," said Capt.
Graham Morgan, a CF-18 Hornet pilot. "We'll be dropping practice
rounds onto targets like sea crates and old vehicles."
The dummy bombs being dropped are scored by white smoke and proximity to
the predetermined targets.
"This training at Smoky Hill will enable Canadian and United States
forces to better coordinate and execute joint missions overseas," said
Tim Rogers, A.A.E., Salina Airport Authority executive director.
