Howard + Helmer
selected for 'Big Bertha' redesign
Salina, Kan., (May 18, 2011) -
The Salina Airport Authority board of directors approved a $218,994
design contract with the Wichita firm of Howard and Helmer
Architecture, at the May 18 board meeting.
The firm was selected in
September 2010 as the best qualified firm to provide the design
services for Hangar 959 renovations.
Locally known as "Big
Bertha," the hangar will be well-suited for narrow-body aircraft
and maintenance, repair and overhaul operations use after the
renovations are complete.
Rehabilitation design will
include rehabilitating the hangar doors to working order, installing
infrared tube heating, insulation for reduced utility usage, improved
lighting and upgrading the fire suppression system to meet current
National Fire Protection Association standards.
