Stars, Bars and a Maple Leaf

Salina, Kan., (March 10, 2010) - The leather clad patriots of the American Legion Riders will don a maple leaf alongside their traditional stars and bars Friday morning as they escort more than 60 airmen from Canada's Air Force 425th Tactical Fighter Squadron on the first few miles of their trek to Altus Air Force Base in Oklahoma.

The group is scheduled to meet on Friday at 6:30 a.m. in front of the Country Inn and Suites on South Ninth St. where the airmen have been staying while they support Canadian soldiers training for deployment to Afghanistan.

There will be a short informal ceremony at the hotel before the American Legion Riders lead the bus south on Ninth St. to Waterwell Rd., then west to I-135 South, where they will bid farewell to our allies guarding our northern flank until the next time they fill our skies with the "sound of freedom."

Public and media are welcome to attend.
