Nearly 80 businesses at the Salina Municipal Airport
and Salina Airport Industrial Center generate more
than $200 million in annual payroll and more than $50
million in annual state and local tax revenues,
according to a report from Wichita State University's
Center for Economic Development and Business.
"The Salina Airport Authority commissioned the report
to give it a data-rich look at the results of 40 years
of community economic development strategy and
policies since the closing of Schilling Air Force Base,"
says Tim Rogers, A.A.E, the airport's executive
director.
The WSU report also found that airport and airport
industrial center businesses invested more than $22
million in capital expenditures and purchased local
goods and services amounting to more than $101
million in 2006. Businesses at the airport directly
employ more than 4,000 workers and account for
more than 7,100 jobs, says the WSU research center.
"The economic and fiscal impacts of the 4,016
workers, their employers and their visitors on the
city, county, school district and state are enormous.
The Salina Airport and Airport Industrial Center is a
vital part of the local and state economies,"
according to WSU's economic report.
"This study demonstrates the importance of the
Salina Airport and Airport Industrial Center to the
economy of Salina and how critical success at the
