AS&T Consolidates, Expands American Presence

Aerospace Systems & Technologies Inc., (AS&T) is consolidating its aircraft ice protection marketing and installation operations and expanding its U.S. presence at the Salina Municipal Airport.

AS&T is a subsidiary of CAV Aerospace Ltd., Consett County Durham, UK, which manufactures the TKS ice protection system. AS&T markets TKS ice protection systems in the United States and completes aircraft installations at the SLN Aviation Service Center at the Salina Municipal Airport, where the company is headquartered.

  • Vortex Moves Into Newly Built State of the Art Facility
  • Salina Vortex Corporation has been busy moving into its new 120,000 square-foot facility at 1725 Vortex Avenue. The manufacturing facility has been in operation in the 100,000 square-foot manufacturing portion since September and the office staff plans to be moved in by Thanksgiving.

  • Unmanned Aerial Systems/Future Systems Symposium a Success
  • In October of 2006, academia, military and business people from across the United States and Canada gathered in Salina, Kan. to discuss and learn about Unmanned Aerial Systems. The symposium hosted 170 participants and 26 exhibitors that came to the Unmanned Aerial Systems/Future Systems Symposium to learn about the importance of a UAS in times of disaster and homeland security issues. They also discussed the importance of finding an area where the Unmanned Aerial Systems could be operated and tested.

  • The thriving SLN Municipal Airport is active with commercial, military and general aviation, this always leads to the problem of selecting just a few subjects to provide articles on. For this quarter, Flight Line features articles on the Omega Tanker, the C-130H2 spray mission at the Smoky Hill Bombing Range and the AOPA's Airport Watch.

  • Flying Clubs Wanted!
  • From time to time the Airport Authority is asked if flying clubs are permitted on the Salina Municipal Airport. Salina Municipal Airport rules and regulations permit flying clubs and FAA guidance encourages flying clubs. The Airport Authority would like to see more flying club activity at the airport.

    Flying clubs are intended to foster and promote flying for pleasure, develop skills in aeronautics including pilotage, navigation and an awareness and appreciation of aviation requirements and techniques. All flying clubs based at the Salina Municipal Airport must operate in accordance to airport rules and regulations.
